Powell, WY Family Photographer |Out and About | The Animal Store

One of the boys’ favorite activities is to visit the hardware store downtown.  They, of course, don’t know it’s a hardware store. To them, it’s the animal store.   Every time we go it’s the same routine.  During warm weather months, we hit the lawn mowers first.  The fish, lizards, and spiders next.  From there, the next stop varies, but our last stop is always to stare at the miniature animals and vehicles.  For some reason, Sean has been drawn to the lizard terrariums.  He doesn’t understand why we can’t bring one home.  He wasn’t, however, in love with Connor’s idea of setting out lawn chairs for a little break time. I often take the kids there on a lazy summer day when we have nothing else to do.   To them, it’s a special trip, an event, even if it’s just a reason to get out of the house for me!

Kids Were Here | March

I have joined another group of fabulous ladies to document how our children leave their traces in our lives.  If you were to walk into my home, you would see evidence of them everywhere.  I do not have a spotless, everything in its place world that I live in.  There is evidence of my little ones in every room.  And I love that.  I feel that our house feels more like a home because of my kids. It is our hope that this project will become a keepsake so that we can remember this moment in our lives.  If you’d like, head to the bottom of my post where you’ll find a link to  discover some more KWH blog posts and to share the love!

They.  Are. Everywhere.

A Day in the Life | March | Northern Wy Family Photographer

For the last few months, I’ve been thinking about taking a different direction with my family sessions.  I have always admired the work of photographers such as Colie James and Kayla Maltese, but lately I’ve found myself drawn to them even more for inspiration.  When I realized that I could take a workshop called Telling Stories with Lifestyle Photography with Colie, well, it took me about 2 seconds to find the page.  We are in week 2 of instruction and let me tell ya what…this workshop is worth every penny.  Colie is open and honest with her feedback while encouraging us constantly.  I am definitely pushing myself and discovering that I have a LONG way to go and so much to learn!

This week’s assignment was to capture a day in our life.  I had hopes of going to do something new, something out of the ordinary, but a kid recovering from the flu and the other with a nasty cold limited what we did.  So.  This is a collection of images on our normal lazy, don’t get out of your pajamas until noon kind of Saturday.  You’ll see that both kids were so tired that they wanted to nap before lunch (well, Sean did at first, ended up eating fruit in his room, and not napping!)  We had lots of tears, a little boy that some how ended up in my bed the night before, and some torn stickers. They still played a lot, convinced me to build a tent, and logged some couch time.  We ventured outside to walk to get the mail, but it was too chilly to stay out for very long.  I started with 433 images, culled them down to 44 last night, and chose what you’ll see below to show you a day in our life.  My hope is that you can follow our story!  Enjoy 🙂ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

Pohlman Family Mini Session|Powell WY Family Photographer

This was one of my last sessions this fall and it was soooo stinkin windy!  We crossed our fingers all day that the weather would turn in our favor.  But, since we live in Wyoming, we didn’t luck out.  I think it was the only windy day that week.  The rest of it had been gorgeous!  We decided to go for it anyway and I’m so glad we did! The mini session setting was perfect for this family.  The little guys were about done with me putting my camera in their face after the 20 minutes, but I had so many great shots by then that I had a hard time narrowing it down to the promised 5 images.  This is pretty typical of my sessions, so they had the option to choosing more to add to their disc of images.  Here are just a few of my favorite ones.  They are such a fun family and I think that their energy really shows in these pictures.ImageImageImageImage

Kids Were Here | January | the tent

I have joined another group of fabulous ladies to document how our children leave their traces in our lives.  If you were to walk into my home, you would see evidence of them everywhere.  I do not have a spotless, everything in its place world that I live in.  There is evidence of my little ones in every room.  And I love that.  I feel that our house feels more like a home because of my kids.  When it’s cold outside, and you have 2 boys, you inevitably have a tent erected in your living room.  That tent is made from Daddy’s custom blanket, long enough to fit his 6’4″ frame and wide enough to double over to keep him nice and toasty.   And, because we don’t have encyclopedias and dictionaries hanging around as I did as a child, you will find boxes of diapers and wipes anchoring the corners of the tent.  Whatever works, I say!

0O1A7306_0350When that tent is abandoned, as it always is for louder and faster games, the poor bear gets left behind.  If only that bear could talk to share the secrets told underneath the makeshift tent.   Bear will wait, patiently and quietly, until he is needed as a pillow, or a friend, or a stake to hold a blanket from slipping off a chair.

Kalli |RHS Senior 2014 |Wyoming Senior Photographer

Every once in a while every thing that can go right with a session, does.  Even the unfortunate wildfires worked in our favor the day that Kalli and her mom made the trek from Rawlins to have her Senior Pictures taken.  Everything, from the temperature of the day, to Kalli’s natural beauty, to the fun and relaxed atmosphere on her Grandparents’ land worked just perfectly together.  Perfectly.  I couldn’t have asked for a better session and am absolutely in love with how all the images turned out.  Kalli, her mom, and I were able to mesh our visions into one in order to showcase Kalli’s senior year. powell wy senior portrait photographer_0001 powell wy senior portrait photographer_0002 powell wy senior portrait photographer_0003 powell wy senior portrait photographer_0004 powell wy senior portrait photographer_0005 powell wy senior portrait photographer_0006 powell wy senior portrait photographer_0007 powell wy senior portrait photographer_0008 powell wy senior portrait photographer_0009And, to make the session even sweeter, we were able to recreate a  portrait taken when these cousins were small enough to see through the windshield.

Siblings in the Park | Northern, WY Family Photographer

I moved away from my hometown practically right after my high school graduation, and my parents soon followed suit.  Because of this, I lost touch with so many friends that I had gone to school with my entire life.  I read a message on my Facebook page one day from one of my classmates and I was SO excited that not only was I going to meet my friend’s kiddos but I could catch up! Since I have moved back to the area I grew up in, I realized just how hard it is to reconnect.  Perhaps photography will be the right “excuse” to set aside some specific times to do so.  These two siblings are just adorable.  I had so much fun this summer running after them.  I’ll tell ya what, big brother has some mad basketball skills!ImageImageImageImageImageImage

Rain, Rain Go Away |Northern, WY Family Photographer

As an on location, natural light photographer one issue that must constantly be dealt with is the weather.  It seems that if it’s not snowing, it’s too hot.  Or the wind is blowing.  Or a storm is blowing in.  Or, … Continue reading

Across the Miles|Southern Wyoming Family Photographer

Every once in a while you meet a person that becomes a friend for life.  Not only did I gain a best friend in this family, but so did Sean.  He speaks of his bestie often and I’m pretty sure that Connor is going to have a friend in little sister as well.  This may be the hardest mini session to blog because I miss my friend so much.  I feel very lucky, though, to have met this family and to carry the connection across hundreds of miles.ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage
